These are the common steps for setting up a webserver

After this only there is real difference between Managed and UnManaged Servers

Managed Server:

They will set up domain for you.They will create Database and other details like FTP that are needed by you.Suppose if you do n’t know how to create a database in plesk you can always approach them for help and also you can ask them to set up a new domain for you.Basically you can ask any help from them relating to the server and website configuration,they will guide you through.

UnManaged Server:

They will give you login credentials to plesk and then you have to set up your own domain and configure your server.if you are having an unmanaged server then you can get into a lot of problems while setting up DNS for a domain.And also no one will help you in creating SQL databases etc., and also with your scripts and also you have to find out way to solve the errors you may encounter in setting up a domain.

So for a newbie it is always good to Go with a managed server.Though it costs a few bucks for you,its will give good dividends in initial stages
